Weekday Delivery Massage Therapy Programs
If you’re someone who learns better when you have more contact time with the instructor, our weekday delivery is for you. Let me explain how it works.
Year One | Basic Relaxation Certificate
When you enroll in the Weekday Delivery program, you will learn Swedish massage and basic assessment and treatment techniques in the first year of study. In June, you’ll obtain your Basic Relaxation Certificate and decide whether you’d like to continue on in the second year to complete your Remedial Massage Therapy Diploma.
During this first year, you will also complete theoretical classes in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pathology treatments and professional practice. Starting in February, you’ll start working with clients from the public in our Student Clinic and Outreach locations across Winnipeg.
Graduates with a Basic Relaxation Certificate cannot claim insurance for their client’s treatments. This is because most insurance companies require that the therapist providing the massage therapy holds a 2200-hour diploma. For this reason, the majority of students move on to the second year and obtain their diploma.
Year Two | Remedial Massage Therapy Diploma
In the second year of the Weekday Delivery program, you’ll expand your knowledge in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunctions of the body. This means that when a client comes to see you, you’ll be able to perform a number of assessments that will help you understand what dysfunction they have and where work needs to be done. You’ll gain the treatment skills to make progress with those dysfunctions and know when something is out of your scope of practice.
You’ll also go deeper with your knowledge of physiology, pathology, pathology treatments and professional practice. If you’re interested in starting your own business or clinic after graduation, we’ll give you the theory and practice needed to start your career successfully.
Students in the Weekday Delivery program obtain a lot of experience. In the Student Clinic you’ll work with clients from the general public. At our Outreach locations, you’ll see clients with specific pathologies, and the Rounds clinic will give you experience with clients who have chronic pain in specific areas.
Graduates from this program start their career with a 2200-hour Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy.
What is the schedule for a massage therapy student?
Students in the first and second years of the Weekday Delivery programs will benefit from a comprehensive learning experience held primarily on campus. This includes both practical hands-on instruction as well as theoretical classes.
From Monday to Thursday, students will be immersed in practical and theory sessions led by our experienced instructors, who have honed their teaching expertise through years of training therapists under the esteemed Wellington College curriculum. These sessions provide invaluable opportunities for hands-on learning and skill development.
Additionally, for added flexibility, theoretical classes will be accessible online as well.
We encourage students to take advantage of our campus facilities, including designated study spaces, to optimize their learning experience. Whether on campus or at home, our priority is to support students in achieving their academic goals and mastering the material.
How much time does a massage therapy student study?
Students in the Weekday Delivery massage therapy program are encouraged to set aside at least 1.5 hours each day to study. This includes activities such as rewatching class recordings or pre-recorded videos, completing a workbook, reading an article, practicing a technique on a friend or studying for an exam.
